History

Designed by architect John Storrs, Lakeridge opened its doors on September 7, 1971 to more than a thousand eager students. Many names had been considered for the school, including "The Free People's Learning Center," but Lakeridge" won out. Opening day started with a general assembly to give everyone an opportunity to meet faculty members and administration. Students spent the rest of the day in introductory seminars, getting their pictures taken and exploring their new school.

Lakeridge High School was formally dedicated in January 1972. Determined to make Lakeridge's dedication as unique as its construction, students, staff and the community held a two day celebration. Classes were cancelled on Thursday January 27 and nearly 600 students turned out to give demonstrations, skits and displays of what happens at Lakeridge on a typical school day. On Friday, January 28, the school was opened to the public for a day of speakers and presentations.
