Artist Statement- Annie Misell
My concentration this year was to
incorporate simple line drawings into photos I take. I came up with this
concentration after I completed a piece that was inspired by our class field
trip to Portland. I was able to teach myself how to create texture, pattern, and
movement using black ink. One thing that was crucial to my pieces was the line
quality. My ability to create an accurate and precise piece was my biggest
challenge. If the photo and drawing did not line up the whole piece would be
off. To overcome this challenge, I decided to incorporate the photos in more
interesting and creative ways. For instance, I started to edit the photos by
changing their shape, color, and tint. Another way to create more unique pieces,
I began to add paint, a three-dimensional look, and use different papers and
tissues. My goal was to create unique and thoughtful pieces and I believe my
concentration gave me the opportunity to do so.
