Art is something that I cannot force. While trying to think of a concentration, a body of work that we would be working on the entire year, I knew it had to be something that I was interested in and would stay interested in. I initially started out focusing on the human form, which eventually evolved into bones and bone structure. For a good part of the year I was dragging my feet trying to find something I actually wanted to do. Thankfully, it just hit me one day, that I love working with different mediums so I came to using color, mediums, texture, and pattern to create a body of work that I am ultimately proud of. During the course of creating my concentration I came to better understand colors and how they work together. My ultimate goal was to further understand the relationships that can be developed between design, colors, and different medias. I made all of my pieces connect, with color and design. My design runs through all of my pieces connecting them and giving them shape, form, and a sense of movement. The colors also connect the pieces together so it can be displayed as one complete piece.
I like working with different materials, and to create these pieces I had to experiment. I stumbled upon bleeding art tissue at an art class I took this past summer at the Multnomah Art Center. The art tissue was my main ingredient in creating my pieces. I like to work with my hands and creating mixed media work is what I like to do most. I am a painter, and I also draw, but when I don’t have to worry about staying in the lines, or making it look perfect is when I create the art I am most passionate about and am most proud of.
