APArt Studio

2008 – 2009                                                                                                            Ms. McBride

AP Art Studio is an intensive course that addresses advanced concepts in drawing, painting and beyond.  Students taking this course will produce portfolios of slides for use in the college admissions process and are prepared to submit portfolios for AP evaluation.

Students are expected to perform at an advanced skill level while taking initiative to develop their own commitments to content and personal voice.  Each student designs a concentration focused on a particular visual concern in which he or she has a compelling interest, and explores and develops a body of work over a 10 week or more period of time.  A substantial amount of work is required outside of class.

 Goals include:

v      Develop your portfolio, exploring a breath and depth of media as well as concentration.

v      Make effective use of the principles and elements of art.

v      On-going critical analysis of work through individual and group critiques.

v      Being consistently and constantly productive.

v      Push and challenge yourself artistically.

Materials that you will need to bring week one for this class include:

 Grading

Grading for this class will include several different elements.

o        Sketchbook and Blog Comments– 20 percent

o        Attendance (Participation, attendance, – 10 percent

o        Life Drawing Sessions– 10 percent (2 per semester, $5.00 per session to cover models.  Life drawing sessions cannot be made up.  Every effort has been made to schedule life drawing with minimal conflicts.)

o        Projects  – 50 percent

o        Portfolio completion – 10 percent

NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED for inclusion into the “Project” portion of your grade.  Late work can still be used to complete your portfolio.

After one week graded work is not up for negotiation.  If you have an issue with your grade please schedule a time with the teacher to discuss your grade prior to the week expiring.

In this classroom, you are expected to behave as a respectful, responsible individual. You are also expected to have fun.  I will expect to see you push and challenge yourself rather than fall back on what comes easy to you or what has been successful in the past.
