Welcome This course is an exploration of two-dimensional techniques, focusing on drawing & painting media.  During this semester, you will work toward the following goals:

q       Gain a more advanced understanding of drawing and painting media, processes & concepts.

q       Apply these new understandings toward the production of your own, original art.

q       Expand your knowledge and vocabulary as it relates to both contemporary & historic painting.

q       Discover your limits and strive to create beyond them.

This is primarily a skill and technique building class.  If you do not enjoy the art of drawing/painting or do not have a commitment to improving your existing skills in two-dimensional art, you probably should not be here.  Drawing and Painting is not easy – most good art isn’t.

Late work

Late work will suffer anywhere from a 10%-100% loss of value.  Work more than one week late may not be accepted. After one week graded work is not up for negotiation.  If you have an issue with your grade please schedule a time with the teacher to discuss your grade prior to the week expiring.

o        Should you be absent (excused only) the day something is due, it is expected that it will be ready immediately upon your return.

o        Should you be absent (unexcused) the day something is due, you forfeit anywhere from 10% - 100% of the value of that assignment.

o        If you are absent (excused or unexcused) during the workday or demonstration day, it is up to you to get the work and make it up on your own time.

o       ABSENCES:

o        Any absences and extreme tardies (excused or unexcused) will need to be made up in the studio on your own time.  ANY 4 ABSENCES THAT ARE NOT MADE-UP WILL RESULT IN A DECREASE IN YOUR CUMULATIVE GRADE BY 10 %.

There is a $30 fee for this course that is used to cover the materials used for in-class and at-home projects that you keep. You will be charged extra for excessive materials or lost or damaged materials.

In this classroom, you are expected to behave as a respectful, responsible individual. You are also expected to have fun.  I will expect to see you push and challenge yourself rather than rely on what comes easily to you or what has been successful in the past.  Remember… as in life, YOU are in-charge of your experiences.

Decide to make your experiences great!
